Not so very long ago, I had an informational interview with the very talented Amys at MiMi Design, an award-winning wedding planning duo in Minneapolis. I had just come from the high of planning my own wedding and wanted to continue working in the wedding industry that they so fantastically plan and organize for their clients. They spotted my hand-lettered envelope that I had written for my own invitations and asked if I would be interested in doing calligraphy. I said sure, so I went about creating three distinctive styles that might fit a wedding of today. One was traditional (Darcy), one was modern (Emmet), and one was wild and fanciful (Royal). I had the pleasure of writing many addresses for many couples, and I really enjoyed it. It is fun creating a lovely envelope that you know will excite someone when they go to their mailbox. I worked in so many colors of ink, and on so many colors of envelopes! If there is an occasion where you would like to personalize things by having some calligraphy done, contact me. I would be happy to send you more information and discuss what I can do for you!
In my illustration and design work I often create my own hand-lettering to suit the image or theme. These pieces are examples of hand-lettering I've done by hand without the help of a computer. I have had the pleasure of hand-lettering signage for weddings, significant words for tattoos, names and company names for logos, and flavors of ice cream for packaging labels. To give this website a little more of my personality, I hand wrote the header and the gallery thumbnail titles. I love putting the computer away sometimes and making something the old-fashioned way, with my hands and real materials. Let me know if you have a hand-lettering project that I could help you with! I love to write things by hand!
For times when the standard fonts you've seen won't cut it, custom type can often do the trick. I thoroughly enjoy developing custom type to suit various designs and occasions. Logos often require a typestyle to stand apart, and sometimes titles of books are more playful when rendered by hand. If you find yourself in need of some custom type, let me know. I really enjoy it!
